Truth and Rumors

It's is so rare that I agree with any Fox commentator - it's now happened for a second time. (You remember the first between Trump and Megyn Kelly.) Well, now here is Howard Kurtz discussing Kevin McCarthy's pullout in the Speaker's race. Overall, I agree with is premise but I do have one point of clarification. My outrage - let's not call any of the blogs he mentions "journalism." In all of the sites mentioned, there are no standards being met, no attempt at fact checking, no attempt to provide "both" sides to a story. Journalism is the pursuit of truth and perpetuating unsubstantiated rumors isn't what journalists do. So why compare these rumor mills to journalism?

I worked with McCarthy 15 years ago - I was working for a startup called Affinity Online - and he was trying to transform the Young Republicans National Federation, one of our clients. Super nice guy - I wish him all the best. He trusted me - professionallly and personally - and crazy like a fox sounds just about right...
